Antoine Griezmann’s fan service was world class.

Atletico Madrid defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the second leg of the Coupang Play Series at Seoul World Cup Stadium at 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

The presence of Atletico’s core Griezmann was unmistakable. Playing half a division below Alvaro Morata, Griezmann was all over the pitch and involved in Atletico’s attack as he was awarded free-roles. Whenever Atletico were on the counterattack or in possession, Griezmann was at the center of it.

Griezmann’s breakthrough in the 45th minute was one that even the world’s best team, Man City, couldn’t stop. On a solo counterattack, Griezmann managed to break free and lead the attack despite having three City players on him. It didn’t result in a goal, but it was a counterattack that proved once and for all the destructive power Griezmann has at Atletico.

Midway through the second half, Griezmann showed his love for the fans even after being benched. As he made his way to the bench, the fans at the Seoul World Cup Stadium erupted in applause for Griezmann, who smiled and waved back at them. The fans were touched by Griezmann’s behavior and applauded even more.

Griezmann also showed good fan service in the first leg against Team K-League. After the game, he called the Atletico players out to greet the fans, with key players like Griezmann and Koke going first, followed by all the Atletico players.

Griezmann was back on the bench, but he stayed focused on the game, jumping off the bench to cheer and applaud his teammates when Memphis Depay and Yannick Carrasco scored.

Speaking to Spain’s Mundo Deportivo after the game, Griezmann said, “The weather was hot, the humidity was high, but there is no excuse (for the loss). The stadium was full, it’s an honor to play here and be with the Korean fans, I’m really happy, and when I see the jersey with my name on it, 꽁머니지급 I get excited, I’m full of pride and happiness,” he said, thanking the fans.

Griezmann also showed good fan service when he arrived in Korea, signing autographs for many fans. It was a far cry from Cristiano Ronaldo’s visit to Korea with Juventus about four years ago. The weather was very humid and the fans could have gotten tired, but Griezmann and other Atletico players made the heat and humidity go away.
